Calibrated IntraSense miniature pressure sensor offers high accuracy and ease of integration

BERWYN, Pa. – June 26, 2024 – Minimally invasive procedures are experiencing significant growth, driven by the demand for less invasive techniques offering faster recovery and lower risks compared to traditional surgery. However, there is still a growing need to be able to integrate direct pressure monitoring throughout the body. The challenge is that minimally invasive surgical devices may lack these pressure-sensing capabilities, or they may rely on external sensors, which can lead to interference, inaccuracies, and delays in measurement. To address this need, TE Connectivity, a world leader in connectivity and sensors, has introduced Calibrated Intrasense, a miniature pressure sensor designed to set a standard in precision and reliability for minimally invasive procedures.

“Innovation to meet market needs is at the forefront of everything we do at TE,” said Geoffrey Wildman, senior product manager at TE. “The new Calibrated IntraSense miniature pressure sensor’s small design is expected to allow for seamless integration into various minimally invasive surgical devices, providing real-time pressure feedback.”

Key features and benefits of Calibrated IntraSense miniature pressure sensors include:

  • Miniature size: Measures just 750 µm × 220 µm × 75 µm, fitting seamlessly into 1-French tubes and needles allowing for small, light and ergonomic equipment.
  • Pre-calibrated for easy integration: Fully encapsulated and pre-calibrated, eliminating the need for manual calibration and enhancing reliability.
  • Accurate point-of-use measurements: Provides real-time pressure data with a typical drift of less than 2 mmHg absolute maximum per 24 hours, contributing to accuracy throughout the anatomy.
  • Biocompatible materials: Uses biocompatible materials to reduce the risk of adverse reactions and infections, designed for use without additional gel and no exposed metal on the sensing element.
  • Optional light shield: Reduces the effect of a light source by 60% enabling a high level of accuracy even in confined spaces. This feature is critical for endoscopic applications where ambient light is present.

Examples of procedures that can use devices guided by the Calibrated IntraSense miniature pressure sensor include kidney stone ablation and removal, fractional flow reserve, targeted drug delivery, cardiac transseptal needle and intracranial pressure monitoring.
