TE Connectivity (TE), a world leader in connectivity and sensors, is expanding its operations at the company’s ERNI facility in Adelberg, Germany. The development will bolster the company’s industry-leading electroplating capabilities and create 25 highly skilled technical positions.
The expansion calls for the addition of 3,600 square meters (38,750 square feet) to the existing 56,000 square meters (602,779 square feet) – all to serve the facility’s growing electroplating operations. Work is expected to be complete by October 2023.
A critical component of manufacturing high-end industrial connectors, TE has historically relied on multiple suppliers for the electroplating process. The larger facility will allow TE to bring the process inhouse and simplify the supply chain for customers.
“The facility expansion in Adelberg will enable us to enhance our technical capabilities significantly and increase the flexibility and reliability of our supply chain,” said Vish Ananthan, senior vice president and general manager of TE’s Industrial business unit. “This investment builds upon the legacy of innovation and customer intimacy of ERNI. It is a demonstration of TE’s commitment to our customers in the region as well as the community, by bringing economic development and business growth opportunities.”
TE executives and employees were joined by Hans Erni, former chairman of the board of directors for ERNI, and Adelberg Mayor Carmen Marquardt for a groundbreaking ceremony at the plant on Tuesday, June 21.
“For more than six decades, the community of Adelberg has experienced positive collaboration with ERNI,” Marquardt said. “With today’s groundbreaking ceremony, we look forward to continuing that spirit with TE.”
“One year ago, when the Erni family and shareholders decided to find a future home for the ERNI business, the strategic partner’s growth plan for the Adelberg location was an important consideration in our decision,” Erni said. “I am pleased to see that TE’s commitment to developing the site into a global hub of TE’s Industrial automation business is now being followed through with a large investment in expanding manufacturing capabilities.”
TE acquired ERNI in September 2021. This latest announcement reflects TE’s continued investment in and commitment to the combined company’s customers and employees.
