HARRISBURG, PA – TE Connectivity (TE), a world leader in connectivity, announces its new Fortis Zd LRM connector system, an innovative modular connector system for rugged, next-generation packaging from avionics boxes to military ground vehicles. It features a rugged, lightweight multi-bay shell that accepts high-speed digital signal, power, radio-frequency (RF) and optical modules.
“Supporting the trend for line replaceable modules (LRMs), TE has brought several reliable interconnect technologies together into one package,” said Michael Walmsley, product manager, Global Aerospace, Defense, and Marine, TE. “This solution gives our customers the high-speed capabilities of the Fortis Zd connector, combined with rugged power, RF and optics modules, all sold as modular components to help provide ultimate flexibility for the customer.”
The Fortis Zd LRM connector system provides rugged interconnections based on designs and technologies from reliable TE products in mil-aero applications, including mini-box contact interface per MIL-DTL-55302.
The modular design with common bay size makes the connector system easy to configure for specific application needs and allows designers to position modules where required. The Fortis Zd LRM connector system is suitable for a variety of applications including avionics, electronic warfare, radar interface, vehicle mission computers, communication hubs and weapons targeting and control.
The connector system utilizes high-speed Fortis Zd modules that support data rates up to 12 Gb/s. High-power modules support 55 amps per contact, and low power modules support 15 amps per contact. The housing is made of high-temperature thermoplastic, with lightweight aluminum shells with trivalent chromate conversion coating. The power, RF and optical modules utilize the interface designs that have been utilized in VPX applications. TE’s Fortis Zd LRM connector systems are durable, withstanding 500 mating cycles and an operating temperature range from minus 65 Celsius to 125 Celsius.
