Featured Product: Swept Elbow Backshells

Provides a Smooth 90° Cable Termination Option for Optic and Standard Cables

Swept elbow backshells are designed with a smooth internal bore and a continuous bend radius. Available in the band termination (BT) style, these backshells offer up to a 20% weight savings over traditional backshells. The swept elbow backshell can be utilized in many aerospace and defense applications where a reliable termination solution is required.

TE Connectivity (TE), a world leader in connectivity and sensors, introduced its new swept elbow backshells for electrical and fiber cables in a wide range of military and aerospace applications. As content continues to grow in military and aerospace systems and customers look for improved efficiency, TE’s swept elbow backshells offer designers the potential for up to 20% weight savings.

TE’s new backshells provide constant internal radius and a smoother internal bore using investment casting. They are designed to allow for uncoupling during repairs, which helps reduce damage to the boot, resulting in a simple and fast termination option. Available in a band strap (BT) termination style, with more options to follow, TE’s new backshells can provide strain relief and cable support to help reduce bending or overflexing.

“The weight savings TE’s swept elbow backshells offer military and aerospace markets are a significant advantage to designers trying to improve efficiency within increasingly crowded space envelopes,” said James Cowap, global product manager for TE’s Aerospace, Defense and Marine division. “These backshells also improve ease of assembly for customers in high vibration applications with large wire bundles.”

TE’s swept elbow backshells suit a wide range of circular connectors and they are available in multiple shell sizes and plating configurations. Those include MIL-DTL-38999 series III and IV as well as MIL-DTL-26482 series II.
