The customer sought out TE to leverage a 510k guidewire matrix and manufacturing expertise. They wanted to reduce time to market while developing two specialty peripheral vascular guidewires along with improving radiopacity. Working closely with our customers to understand the clinical need and product performance requirements allowed us to quickly prototype multiple iterations evaluating unique distal tip configurations, core tensile strength, platinum tungsten vs platinum coils and coating options. Ultimately, the customer determined a .002” platinum tungsten distal round wire coil provided the improved radiopacity needed.
Interestingly, while utilizing our complete range of in-house development and testing capabilities the customer found using a hyten core would provide additional pushability for their work horse guidewire; a product improvement originally not outlined in the scope of work. Leveraging our design services team, 510k and CE mark regulatory submission expertise, allowed the customer to remained focused on the development and manufacturing their novel vascular graft and obtain a 30-day regulatory clearance for the work house guidewires. The customer now sells these guidewires under private label.
