The 511M series compression fitting averaging RTD probe is designed for use in and around intake manifolds and heating/cooling coils in HVAC systems.
The flexible sheath has a sensitive area that is equal to its overall length. This provides an average temperature of the air as it moves through the system. Acquiring the average air temperature over a large area of airflow can provide more consistent temperature control throughout the system. This RTD probe sensor also eliminates the need for multiple sensors and instrumentation. Mounting these sensors can easily be achieved by using either our fixed or adjustable fittings. Connection heads and conduit boxes are available for a seamless transition to instrumentation.

Q: What is an RTD?
A: An RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) is a sensor whose resistance changes as its temperature changes. The resistance increases as the temperature of the sensor increases. The resistance versus temperature relationship is well known and is repeatable over time. An RTD is a passive device. It does not produce an output on its own. External electronic devices are used to measure the resistance of the sensor by passing a small electrical current through the sensor to generate a voltage.
