Safety is paramount in home appliances. Due to the possibility of human misapplication, overcurrent or short circuit failures, fire protection requirements were created to evaluate and rate material flammability. Glow wire testing is one such requirement. This paper explores glow wire testing, describes the rationale and compares the practice to other tests.
