Michael is a Global Product Manager in the Aerospace, Defense and Marine business unit. With a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering for the University of Rochester, and an MBA from Penn State University, he has over 35 years experience with interconnects primarily in engineering and product management roles. His areas of expertise include interconnect solutions for embedding computing, rugged high speed board level and RF Connectors. Michael serves on the board of directors of the VITA Organization, which drives technology and standards for the bus and board industry.
Can you recall what inspired you to become an engineer?
Probably what inspires many engineers, the desire to take things apart to understand how they work. I remember at a very young age taking the faceplate off my bedroom light switch and poking around with the screwdriver. I learned the value of an insulated handle. And my clear strength and interest in school was in math and science.
Describe something about your work that you are passionate about?
Working with customers and our engineering teams to develop new, innovative solutions for systems connectivity. Bringing talented teams together and understanding application requirements and challenges leads to success for TE and our customers. Being engaged with our customers and market excites me.
What has been one of your greatest accomplishments during your career?
I’ve worked on some exciting programs for multiple industries, from development of the external hard drive interface for XBOX 360 to launching pluggable I/O solutions that pushed speeds and thermal management for data centers. But I would say my most satisfying accomplishment would be in my current role, in helping to lead our MULTIGIG VPX connector to become the prominent interface for military embedded computing and mapping out a roadmap to support next generation products. Of course, I have an exceptional team supporting me.
When you're not working, what is a favorite hobby or pastime you enjoy?
Repairing and refinishing vintage furniture. I appreciate the quality and workmanship of older pieces and working to restore that beauty in a neglected piece is very satisfying.
