Today’s cars and other vehicles are essentially computers on wheels. And modern e-mobility/electric architectures are allowing OEMs to compete on new levels of experience, differentiating themselves and their products by virtue of the features that they offer – such as futuristic entertainment options, autonomous driving functionality, seamless connectivity, etc. And because these vehicles are somewhat modular, relying on electronics as opposed to mechanical technologies, they have created an entirely new category – that of software-defined vehicles (SDVs). With SDVs, new features can be opt-in to, activated at any time with the click of a mouse of the touch of a smart phone and an additional payment or subscription. This is an entirely new level of passenger and owner experience, as well as offering OEMs completely new business models and revenue streams. As key contributors to creating vehicle architecture that supports these benefits, TE’s subject matter experts can shine light on this exciting new trend.
