Question: What is the cable acceptance range of TE’s SIPC Solar IPC Assemblies?
Answer: Our SIPC insulation piercing connectors cover the 500KCMIL–1000KCMIL trunk bus side and the #10AWG–1/0AWG tap cable side.
Question: How many string inputs can the connector accept?
Answer: Below are the string inputs that the connector can accept:
• 2 strings = SIPC1000 and SIPC1000-ES with dual tap jumper assembly
• 4 strings = SIPC1000 and SIPC1000-ES with quad tap jumper assembly
• 6 strings = SIPC1000 and SIPC1000-ES with multi-tap (6 point) jumper assembly
Question: What conductor types are acceptable to use with the connector?
Answer: There are two types of conductors acceptable to use, as below:
• Trunk Bus Side = AL/CU
• Tap Side = CU
Question: What are the acceptable operating temperatures?
Answer: Below are the operating temperatures of TE’s SIPC:
• Operating Ambient Temperature = -40°C (-40°F) to 55°C (131°F)
• Connector Installation Temperature = 0°C (32°F) to 55°C (131°F)
Question: What are the maximum current ratings of TE’s SIPC Solar IPC Assemblies?
Answer: Based on an operating ambient temperature of -40°C (-40°F) to 55°C (131°F)
1. Trunk Ratings
• 500KCMIL AL Stranded = 414 amps
• 1000KCMIL AL Stranded = 642 amps
2. Tap Ratings
• 10 AWG CU stranded = 30A each
• 8 AWG CU stranded = 55A each
• 6 AWG CU stranded = 65A each
• 4 AWG CU stranded = 90A per side
• 2 AWG CU stranded = 130A per side
• 1/0 AWG CU stranded = 165A per side
