It is important to clean Thermal Transfer printers on a regular basis to ensure good print quality and the functionality of the printer. As a minimum, the print head must be cleaned before each Thermal Transfer ribbon roll is changed to maximize print head life. TE document number 411-121037.

When changing a worn Thermal Transfer Printhead in a Thermal Transfer printer, TE Connectivity (TE), strongly recommends changing the drive roller at the same time. The drive roller may not look worn, but its surface can be compressed and contaminated over time resulting in poor print performance.
