Catheter Pressure Sensors for Medical Devices
TE Connectivity's piezoresistive MEMS pressure sensor with wire connection are designed for minimally invasive medical devices to perform direct pressure measurements in the anatomy. The pressure sensor is mounted to the tip or side of a catheter tube, delivering immediate results. Due to their small size and low energy consumption Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) sensors are particularly suitable. The deformation a diaphragm indicates the amount of external pressure.
In the human body, pressure is an essential parameter in almost all organs. Pressure is measured throughout the organ systems (e.g. the cardiovascular or nervous system) and therefore in different fluids (e.g. blood or cerebrospinal fluid). Determining the pressure accurately helps physicians make critical decisions related to diagnosis or treatment. This may be induced pressure such as insufflation or application of vacuum. Alternately, it could be the monitoring of ambient pressure in the cranial cavity, bloodstream, renal system, uterus or other areas. Direct pressure measurement is performed by sensors in minimally invasive medical devices.
The IntraSense series absolute pressure sensors are designed to fit into a 1-French hypo tube and comes pre-attached to cabling. The fully encapsulated electronics allow the device to be used without additional gel or encapsulant. The IntraSense pressure sensors deliver accurate and stable pressure for acute procedures in the clinically useful range of -300mmHg to +500mmHg (460mmHg to 1260mmHg absolute) and from 10°C to 60°C. The output is stable in 37°C saline, with typical drifts of <2mmHg absolute maximum per 24 hours. The device is available either as a sensor plus cable, or with an optional 4- pin PCB board attached to the proximal end.
