Overview
Our Raychem CST Cold Shrink Terminations are available for indoor (CSTI) and outdoor (CSTO) applications.

Our Raychem CST Cold Shrink Terminations are made from high performance, liquid silicone rubber material which is specially formulated for high tracking and split resistance.

The extra-long stress cone aids in correct positioning, and the integrated void-filling mastic eliminates the need for silicone grease. Sealing mastic for the lug end is built into the expanded termination, eliminating the need for additional sealing tapes. These terminations offer a reliable, fast and easy-to-install system to help ensure trouble-free service and to maintain high network reliability. The key components are pre-expanded on one holdout system, allowing neat installation in compact environments on the prepared cable.

Our range-taking, shear bolt mechanical lugs support reliable installation and service, and can be supplied with the kit.

The Cold Shrink Termination components have full traceability to raw materials and are in compliance with the following international standards: IEEE-48, IEC 61238-1, GB 9327, GB 12706.4, CENELEC HD 629.1 (includes IEC, BS, VDE and other international specifications).

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: What are the primary applications of TE’s Raychem Cold Shrink Terminations?

Answer: Our Raychem Cold Shrink Terminations provide an essential connection between medium voltage cables to transformers, air-insulated substations, overhead lines or busbars. They are suitable for indoor (CSTI) and outdoor (CSTO) applications. The outdoor version of our cold shrink termination comes with sheds for increased creepage distance.

Question: Does TE offer installation training for the Cold Shrink Terminations?

Answer: Yes, our Cold Shrink Terminations are part of our training program. Visit TE.com/trainingcenter to learn more.

Question: What type of cable conductor are the Cold Shrink Terminations suitable for use with?

Answer: Our Cold Shrink Terminations are designed for use with polymeric cables up to 35 kV.

Question: What are the Cold Shrink Terminations made of?

Answer: The body of the Cold Shrink Termination is made of a liquid silicone rubber specially formulated for excellent tracking and split resistance. The silicone material also offers an optimal mechanical expansion ratio, allowing a wide application range for the termination. The termination body is delivered in a pre-expanded condition on a spiral holdout system allowing installation in compact environments on prepared cable.

Question: Are the Cold Shrink Terminations sold in kits?

Answer: Yes, our Cold Shrink Terminations are sold in kits. The kit can include the termination body, the range taking lugs, bracket and grounding. The optional cable lug included in the kits can be a shear bolt lug, shear bolt pin terminal, compression lug, or compression pin terminal.

Question: Which voltage range do the Cold Shrink Terminations cover?

Answer: Our Terminations are qualified up to 42 kV following CENELEC HD 629.1, and up to 35 kV accordingly to IEEE 404.

Question: Do the Cold Shrink Terminations have integrated sealing mastic?

Answer: Yes, the sealing mastic for the lug end is an integral part of the expanded termination, which eliminates the need for additional sealing tapes.

Question: Do the Cold Shrink Terminations have integrated geometrical stress control?

Answer: Yes, in addition to the sealing mastic our Cold Shrink Terminations also have an electrical stress control deflector fully integrated within the silicone termination bodies. This conductive stress cone with an exactly defined geometrical design over the screen cut area provides excellent electrical stress control.
