Overview
Our SLK 2.0 range is 80% faster to install compared to traditional PV Connectors* - installation within 30 seconds for a mated pair, with no special tools needed.

Our SOLARLOK SLK 2.0 DC Plug & Splice Connectors are our newest products, which are IEC 62852 (TUV) and UL 6703 approved. Their design integrates Insulation Displacement Contact (IDC) technology for fast and installation. This removes the need for cable stripping, so the installer can simply plug in the cable and snap on the button to terminate, for increased efficiency and lifetime connection. Thanks to this, the installation time can be shortened by up to 80%, in comparison to our SOLARLOK crimping DC connectors.*

The SLK 2.0 DC Plug and Splice Connectors are range taking, so one connector fits conductors from 2,5 to 6 mm² (10 to 14 AWG).

The SOLARLOK 2.0 range has a gel filling that is unique in the solar market and ensures IP68 water ingress protection. They are resistant to submersion in water to a maximum depth of 1m for up to 24 hours – as well as being deemed fit enough to withstand dust, dirt and sand.

The SLK 2.0 Plug Connectors incorporate the SOLARLOK 1500V PV4-S interface, to meet the latest solar PV needs, and are available in both male and female versions – enabling them to mate with SOLARLOK PV4-S and PV4-PM DC Connectors. 

The SLK 2.0 Splices are provided as a single piece, meaning no risk of incomplete connectors. This accelerates the termination process, with no loose parts to handle and no custom tools required. They are especially suitable for repairs - enabling quick and easy lengthening of cables, or to provide a solution for cables which have been attacked by animals or have mechanical insulation issues. The SLK 2.0 Splices are equipped with a dovetail feature, enabling them to be stacked side by side.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: How many SOLARLOK SLK 2.0 DC Plug and Splice Connectors would TE expect to be required for a 25 MW solar farm?

Answer: We currently only sell connectors to solar farm applications. The “rule of thumb” or calculation for a standard installation of connectors is 300 sets of connectors per 1 MW solar farm. So, a 25 MW solar project, could need 7500 sets of connectors (a set is a mated pair, one male connector and one female connector).

 

Question: How many mm² of cable can TE’s SOLARLOK 2.0 DC Plug & Splice Connectors take? 

Answer: Our SLK 2.0 are ‘range taking’ and can accept either 2.5, 4 or 6 mm² (AWG14-10). As the splices have one cable entry on each side, it is possible to use identical or different cable sizes.

 

Question: Solar panels are usually delivered with connectors already installed – so which ones are TE’s SOLARLOK SLK 2.0 connectors compatible with? 

Answer: Our SLK 2.0 connectors have a Standard Solar Interface which makes them compatible with practically all other solar connectors on the market.

 

Question: Do TE’s SOLARLOK 2.0 DC Plug & Splice Connectors have the same interface?   

Answer: Yes, they do. Our SLK 2.0 DC Plug & Splice Connectors have a Standard Solar Interface. 

 

Question: What is the minimum and maximum insulation thickness allowable in TE’s SOLARLOK 2.0 DC Plug & Splice Connectors? 

Answer: Our SLK 2.0 connectors can use the standard range of EN 50618/IEC 62930 cable. However, we define a specific range of 5.9 mm to 7.2 mm – and we are in the process to reducing this at the lower end to 5.5 mm.

 

Question: Once installed and locked can TE’s SOLARLOK SLK 2.0 Connectors be unlocked and re-used?

Answer: Once mounted on cable, our SLK 2.0 connectors can be unlocked, but must not be re-used. This is valid for all the other solar connectors on the market. 

 

Question: What is the estimated product lifetime of TE’s SOLARLOK SLK 2.0 Connectors?

Answer: Our SLK 2.0 connectors have successfully passed IEC or/and UL standard testing. IEC tests are carried out for European standard weather conditions, to ensure that our connectors can guarantee a reliable connection even harsh environments. Their estimated lifetime in the field more than 20 years, and all SOLARLOK connectors benefit from a two-year warranty.
