Overview

Our Raychem CSJU Cold Shrink Joints provide a superior cold applied solution to splicing jacketed concentric neutral URD (Underground Residential Distribution) cables.

The range of the joint extends 15 kV #2 - 4/0 AWG and 25 kV #1 - 2/0 AWG. The silicone rubber body provides high dielectric strength, high tear strength, low tension set, and excellent low-temperature recovery. Integrated geometric stress control, created by factory molded stress cones and a Faraday cage, is a technology that has been proven by TE’s Raychem products with long-term field service.

The Cold Shrink Joint unique pass-through tube design provides a simple means for connecting the concentric neutrals internal to the splice, under the outer EPDM rejacketing sleeve. The joint accepts both compression and (bolted) mechanical connectors. When a shear bolt connector is used, this is a totally crimp-less system.

The CSJU joint meets IEEE-404 requirements for 15 kV through 25 kV. Each silicone splice body is factory tested to include AC withstand and partial discharge in accordance with IEEE-404 production tests. All TE shear bolt and compression connectors offered with the CSJU meet the ANSI C119.4 electrical standard.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Are Cold Shrink Joints part of the installation training schedule from TE?

Answer: Yes, our Cold Shrink Joints are part of our training program. We can offer different installation training options depending on your needs. This ranges from on-site product demonstrations to complete training courses at one of our global training facilities. Learn more on TE.com/trainingcenter.

Question: Can TE's Raychem Cold Shrink Joints be installed in direct buried, manholes and in cable trays?

Answer: Yes, the Cold Shrink Joints can be installed in different environments, due to their versatile and compact design.

Question: Can CSJU splices be supplied with connectors included?

Answer: Yes. Raychem CSJU series splices are offered with shear bolt connects included in the kit if desired.

Question: Can the TE's Raychem CSJU splice be installed with a tape shield or wire shield?

Answer: The URD cables have a large concentric neutrals cross-section, therefore the splice design includes a pass-through tube that allows the neutral to be connected in full; in case special applications are needed, do not hesitate to contact your TE representative.
