A switch is an electromechanical device used to control the flow of electricity in a circuit. When the switch is ‘OFF’ or in the ‘open’ position, there is no flow of electricity. When the switch is ‘ON’ or in the ‘closed’ position, electricity flows. An electric switch typically includes an actuator, a moving contact, terminals, and a case or housing. TE electrical switches are cost-effective, reliable, high-performance solutions designed to withstand extreme shock, vibration, temperature, and altitude. Browse our portfolio to find many types of electrical switches and switch accessories, including POE switches, managed/unmanaged switches, and switches by configurations such as 1-pole switches and 2-pole switches. We also manufacture knobs, caps, boot seals, and hardware. Our electrical switches are used in industrial machinery, robotics and cobots, home appliances, control panels, motion control systems, and building, lighting, and HVAC systems. Shop our switches by brand: ALCOSWITCH switches, AMP switches, and KISSLING switches.
Which type of switch is right for your design?
A dual inline package (DIP) switch is composed of a series of tiny switches. A single inline package (SIP) switch is a computer chip package that has a single row of connection pins. A push button switch is a non-latching or momentary switch that causes a temporary change of current in an electrical circuit when the button is pressed. A rocker switch rocks back and forth, actuated by a paddle, standard rocker, or dual rocker. A slide switch stays in one state until it’s actuated into a new state, where it remains until it’s actuated again. A snap action switch sends a rapid transfer of contacts from one position to another. Toggle switches are designed for two types of contact: maintained contact and momentary contact.
