The shift towards next generation electronic and electric (E/E) architectures is reducing the number of ECUs, even as the number of sensors and actuators continues to grow. Wiring topologies are transitioning from multiple separate point-to-point connections to fewer, one-to-many connections. Consequently, ECUs and zone controllers increasingly need to support connections with multiple sensors and actuators, which requires mixed connector interfaces that accommodate both signal and power connections within a single connector housing.

This consolidation of E/E architectures presents an opportunity to reduce the scale and complexity of connections while harmonizing the interfaces between each module. In response, TE Connectivity has developed a range of connectors that support both signal and power connections. Additionally, in collaboration with the machine tool industry, TE is helping automotive manufacturers fully capitalize on the advantages of harness process automation.

MIXED VS. HYBRID VS. MODULAR SOLUTIONS

Mixed (Signal, Power)	Mixed connectors are designed to combine multiple signal and power terminal sizes within a single connector interface (i.e. 0.50mm, 0.64mm, 1.2mm, 2.8mm, etc.).
HYBRID (Signal, Power, and Data)	Hybrid connectors take the concept of mixed connectors further by integrating high-speed data connectivity terminals within a single connector.
MODULAR (Flexible, Scalable, Automation-Ready & Miniaturized)	Modular connectors can be customized or adapted by combining different modules or components into a single connector housing leading to maximum flexibility, scalability and time-to-market.
