TE Connectivity offers a complete portfolio of Rail data cables ranging from high speed CAT 7 4 pair, CAT 5 quad to 120 ohm profibus cables. All cable jackets are Halogen-free, flame-retardant meeting EN45545-2 HL 3 standards. Most designs offer both a standard cable jacket to EN45545-2, and a cross-linked ruggedized version to EM-104 is also available. TE not only has a large list of standard parts but also has the design capabilities to create custom designs to meet individual customer requirements.
Rail High Speed Data Cable Portfolio
Cat 5e
Bandwidth of 100MHz over a distance of 100m and intended for transmission of dataspeeds of up to 1Gbps available in 4 pair confuguration. Cat 5e is also available in Quad format (2 pair) but only delivers about half the data rate. Cat5e represents the base Ethernet cable construction and is available with a range of screening options. Most designs offer both a standard cable jacket to EN45545-2, and a cross-linked ruggedized version to EM-104 is also available.
Cat 6
Bandwidth of 250MHz over a distance of 100m and intended to offer an electrically more robust platform for 1Gbps applications only available in 4 pair construction, Cat 6 represents an enhanced 1Gbps Ethernet cable which is electrically more robust and is also available with a range of screening options. Most designs offer both a standard cable jacket to EN45545-2, and a cross-linked ruggedized version to EM-104 is also available.
Cat 7
Bandwidth of 600MHz over a distance of 100m and intended for transmission of dataspeeds of up to 10Gbps only available in 4 pair construction. Cat 7 Ethernet cables offer additional shielding against internal crosstalk and external interference and with more than double the bandwidth of CAT 6 is well suited to supporting next generation multi-media applications whilst assuring better signal quality. Most designs offer both a standard cable jacket to EN45545-2, and a cross-linked ruggedized version to EM-104 is also available.

CAT 5e Data Cable

This cable delivers a bandwidth of 600MHz and supports data rates up to 10Gbps, expanding design capabilities into broader bandwidth Ethernet applications. The enhanced design enables designers to balance performance requirements with installation time, lowering total costs and assuring system performance. Currently the 100MHz, Cat5e is the data cable type predominantly used within the rail industry, supporting data rates up to 1Gbps. The ongoing introduction of high speed data applications with ever increasing data rate demands allows future proofing to be built in whenever Cat 7 cables are installed or replaced.
