Raychem heat shrink technology has contributed to utilities and industries for more than 40 years. Among them, due to excellent properties such as oil barrier property, flame retardancy and fire resistance, this technology is ideal for extreme environment.

課題

Oil production is taking place in the desert area of ​​Oman. Here, the electrical components face harsh environments. Any failure can lead to dielectric breakdown, resulting in the suspension of oil production. The risk of failure is further increased by the following factors.

  • Maximum temperature 60 ° C
  • High UV level
  • Sulfur in diesel exhaust gas
  • Damage by sand

 

Combining these factors can result in local puncture and will spend time on stress control and wiring and harsh erosion of insulation of the cable shield wire. 

Oman's oil and gas exploration and production company is mainly engaged in oil and gas supply in the country, but equipped with hundreds of heat shrinkable connections throughout the vast mining site. This petroleum production company exports hydrocarbons all over the world, and there are no power cuts at hundreds of production sites and thousands of production oil fields.

In Oman's oil company facing insulation breakdown due to failure of the 33 kV heat shrinkage wire in just 2 to 3 years, I was looking for a product that can withstand harsh conditions for several years. Efficient, safe and reliable installation is the company's top priority.

TE Connectivity (TE) engineers work closely with your team and designed a new 33 kV heat shrinkable connection using EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) material ideal for solving this problem. As a result of this cooperative structure, an innovative heat shrinkable connection with extra insulation layer was developed. In this heat shrinkable connection, the wall thickness of the insulation tube at the lower part of the connection becomes thick, and as a result, the risk of pinholes is greatly reduced.  

 

It is the result of Raychem's expertise fused to the experiences cultivated in the design of TE. Our specially developed EVA material has high UV radiation resistance and its surface crack rate is very low, so it is applied to the production of heat shrinkable wire. It was also an ideal solution to withstand the harsh environment like the desert.
